The beginning piano solo is a precursor for the lord of the rings theme.

This band always rocked! My folks took me to see Kenton at Chippewa Lake Ohio, when I was 7 years old. The jazz bug bit me hard that night!

I heard this arrangement at age fifteen, and it changed my life. I knew that there was life beyond the classics, mindless ‘pop’ music and even love songs.

I was also at the USC Clinic. I presume you mean South Carolina, not that imitation USC in California! I still remember all the trombone players by name. According to a post on another video only two of them are still alive. It’s unforgettable the first time you hear a world class band like this.

I remember hearing this at Rainbow Gardens in Erie, Pa and standing about 5 feet from the orchestra all night. I don’t even think I knew my date was there. To be enveloped in that sound was just amazing.

Way, way, way back when there was only the opening theme, I loved it and then this, the closing theme, just wipes me out. Can’t hear it enough and will never tire of it. All these years later, I still get misty eyed.

I was in High school and had just had an accident that cut a tendon in my finger. I was considering quitting when I met the bass player here in a band clinc the Kenton orchestra gave at the University of SC. John Worster encouraged me to stick with it and taught me how to make my fingers stronger. I will never forget him.

M1GARRAND1 says, «He tried so hard at innovating Jazz, but the jazz critics tore him down.» The saying goes, «Critics are like eunuchs in a harem; they know how it’s done, they’ve seen it done everyday, but they’re unable to do it themselves.» Fact is, when other great bands fell by the wayside, Kenton’s survived until he died. More and more of his albums continue to be released on CD (I have OVER 100 Kenton CDs). So much for the critics. Thank you BAZMO2401 for your quality upload.

I saw The Kenton Orchestra in Hershey, PA, before they demolished the Starlight Ballroom. I think Ferguson was featured. A few years later, I was studying in the library at Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH. The Kenton Orchestra was performing on the floor above the theology reading room- in the University chapel- when they exploded into «Artistry in Rhythm» directly above me. It was truly a religious experience!

The first of the Artistries and you should have heard it on Balboa Is. CA. in 1948. A Kenton fan from the beginning and all thru his many variations. From
shelley Manne to this cat on the drums.
